How to Pick the Best Parties this Ibiza Season
As the first wave of line-up announcements come filtering through, the sense of excitement is unparalleled – that’s right, the Ibiza season is almost upon us.
With Ibiza 2015 shaping up to be as strong as ever, the only way to work out your plan of action is to read our day-by-day guide of the best parties on the White Isle. Trust us, it will prove to be almost as essential as our range of Thomas Royall swim shorts as you take the first steps off the plane.
Obviously, where you choose to go to in Ibiza will always be dictated by your music preferences. But let us just assume that you’re going to the island with an open mind, a fresh palate when it comes to thumping, all-night parties: the first stop has to be Circoloco at DC-10.
Whatever week you choose to go to Ibiza, make sure you incorporate a Monday into your visit, as Circoloco’s stellar line-up of house and techno superstars – announced week by week – are some of the finest showcases of underground dance music in the world. If that doesn’t take your fancy, why not head over to Cocoon at Amnesia? The record-breaking record label and club night will have some of the island’s heavyweights swinging in on a weekly basis, leaving it difficult to be disappointed when you finally prise yourself away from the dance floor at closing time.
For those familiar with the Manchester clubbing scene, you’ll be aware that northern kingpins Sankeys have relocated to the centre of the partying universe to open Sankeys Ibiza. On Tuesdays is their Tribal Sessions, arguably one of the surprises of the summer last season, with some of the UK’s biggest names peppering the bill throughout the summer.
If you want somewhere a little more established, all roads lead to Space. The Main Room bows down to the legendary Carl Cox, one of the islands most experienced selectors, while the terrace is the new home to East London party Fuse at irregular intervals across the season.
Wow, Wednesday… where to begin? We’ve got to start with tINI and the Gang at No Name on Playa d’en Bossa, the beach shack famed for its sunrise sessions last season. Here at Thomas Royall, part of the reason we started was to provide party-goers with shorts that could double up on the dancefloor and it’s difficult to picture a more perfect opportunity to unleash them that at one of these events.
Elsewhere, there’s Jamie Jone’s Paradide at DC-10, a sure-fire sell-out regardless of when you decide to visit, Ibiza Rocks at, well, Ibiza Rocks, providing the best in indie music (even The Libertines are making an appearance to celebrate their tenth birthday), the relocation of legendary Sunday party We Love… at Sankeys, and of course the heavyweight house and techno party HYTE making its debut at Amnesia. Whatever you do, don’t miss a midweek session – wherever you decide to end up!
Global superstar Richie Hawtin returns with Enter at Space from July through until September, but following the brand’s world tour it seems that their head honcho wants to keep things as secret as possible, so keep your eyes peeled for announcements as the season begins to gather pace.
One of Cocoon’s favourite son’s, Luciano, has gone out on his own this summer and one of the parties he’s at the helm of is Luciano & Friends at Destino. Easily one of the island’s most breath-taking locations, you can expect sunset and (sunrise) sessions from one of the most reputable DJs on the island. However, Thursdays wouldn’t be worth mentioning without the legendary Cream at Amnesia. In their twenty-first season on the island, expect the usual heavy-hitting trance legends to whip the crowd into a now-customary frenzy.
Friday in Ibiza isn’t like a normal Friday; in fact it is just like any normal day – parties, parties and more parties. It’s also the day that the island’s most talked-about party, Marco Carola’s Music On at Amnesia gets into its groove. When it comes to success stories on the island, there have been a few over the years but it seems like this decade may just come to be defined by this juggernaut of techno.
If you’re feeling a bit crazier, then there’s only one place for you – Insane at Pacha. The venue is now a global institution and caters for clubbers from all backgrounds all over the world, so we’ve come to know what to expect on a Friday night: stomping tunes and an unrivalled atmosphere to match. For an even bigger spectacle, get down to SuperMartXé at Privilege, the former host to the legendary Manumission parties and the biggest club on the island. Over 10,000 people losing their minds to some of the most decadent DJs of all time, it’s certainly a Friday night you’ll never forget.
Two parties lead the way on a Saturday night – the first is the inimitable Zoo Project at Gala Night, providing a truly unique atmosphere in one of the most exciting venues on the whole island. Expect a party atmosphere from the minute you walk in as their ethos is strictly rooted in the sunshine; if you don’t leave to Zoo Project feeling good, it’s time to leave Ibiza altogether.
The second is Hed Kandi at Es Paradis. We don’t need to provide any introduction to their ubiquitous brand of house music, present in clubs and bars all over the world and Es Paradis provides a perfect poolside backdrop to their hands-in-the-air tunes.
Sunday is the day of rest in Ibiza, so all the clubs are closed.
Of course, we’re joking – Sundays roll through like any other day on the White Isle. If you’re up for some daytime partying, then look no further than Guy Gerber’s Rumours at Beach House. It seems he’s finally settled on a place that exhibits his luscious tastes perfectly, so come and dip your feet and watch the sun set on a beautiful week on the island with some of the best DJs in the world – all unannounced – playing on the wheels of steel.
However, we have managed to save the biggest draw on the island until last. Sunday nights in 2015 will be characterised by one DJ and one DJ only: Avicii at Ushuaia. He’s got an eight-week residency and it is guaranteed that there will be no busier party than this one, so make sure your fix up and look sharp if you’re after a ticket for this one!
