How to Find the Best Beach Festivals this Summer

How to Find the Best Beach Festivals this Summer

The period from Easter through to September may traverse three seasons, but for thousands of people throughout Britain it only means one thing – festival season. However, with prices on our shores increasing rapidly by the year, more and more people are turning to Europe to fulfil their festival desires. The allure of sun and sea to complement some of the world’s favourite musical artists is something that had previously been something almost exclusively available in Ibiza, but nowadays we are blessed with almost infinite choice when looking to dip our feet in the European festival pool.

Below, we go through some of our favourite beachside festivals that you can attend this summer, all while looking the part in some of our classic Thomas Royall swim shorts. 2015 is already shaping up to be a fantastic year, so grab a pen and paper to take some notes to ensure you and your mates end up with tickets to one of the continent’s most sought-after festival destinations.

Dimensions, Croatia

With the amount of choice that Croatia offers these days, it’s becoming more and more difficult to select one or two events that stand out from the rest. Dimensions, however, is in a league of its own. Located within the walls of the ancient Fort Punta Christo on the Pula Peninsula, this really is the epitome of the modern festival. Affordable, enjoyable and with a stellar line-up each and every year, it’s difficult to imagine the festival landscape without it – despite only entering its fourth year.

It’s unlikely you’ll find a more idyllic setting to see some of the most revered DJs in the world, and the sound systems are enough to make your rib cage vibrate for days. With a capacity cap put in place this year to preserve the atmosphere, we advise you to act fast if you want to sample this beautiful festival this coming August.

Benicassim, Spain

Benicassim (or the Festival Internacional de Benicàssim, to give its proper name) is undoubtedly the beach festival behemoth, a giant among the young upstarts that have popped up across the continent over the last few years. Now entering its twentieth year, it really is one of the world festival scene’s major players – such longevity has caused it to build up a significant following of loyal revellers from all over the world.

With a line-up that caters as much for bands as it does for DJs, you can expect to see some of the biggest names in the world grace the beach-side resort each and every year. Camping is, of course, extremely hot, so if you’re thinking of venturing there this year we may advise booking an apartment.

Southern Soul Festival, Montenegro

Back over to the eastern Mediterranean now, and to Montenegro. It may not have been the first place on your list when it comes to planning a trip away, but if you’re looking for a slightly more relaxed vibe then the Southern Soul Festival is certainly for you. With over 40 of the most cutting edge soul and electronic acts, you’ll never be short of stimulation and the scenery is absolutely staggering. While many festivals leave you feeling as though you need another holiday just to get over it, your trip to Montenegro will leave you feeling fulfilled and revitalised – no mean feat in today’s current climate.

Into the Valley, Sweden

Alright, so it isn’t quite a beachside festival, but once you look Into the Valley you’ll realise why we couldn’t leave it out. Dalhalla used to be a quarry but now it resembles somewhat of a natural coliseum – complete with a glistening blue pool at its base. It’s long since been converted into a venue suitable for live art and music, but this year sees it transformed into what could possibly be the world’s first quarry club (sounds alright, doesn’t it?).

Expect some of the heavy hitters from the House and Techno scenes, as well as typically innovative Scandinavian art installations that will only add to the allure of this absolutely breath-taking location. This year is its debut, so why not stay ahead of the curve before people inevitably come in their swathes in twelve months’ time?

Soundwave, Croatia

As it’s now arguably the leading light in the European festival calendar, we only felt it right to begin and end with a Croatian festival. Soundwave is one of the continent’s most eclectic festivals, with some of the biggest names in hip-hop going toe to toe with Jungle legends such as LTJ Bukem. It’s now 7 years old, somewhat of a veteran of the Croatian scene, and has carved a place for itself in their calendar with great success due to its consistently forward-thinking line-ups.

If it’s beach parties or boat parties that take your fancy, get your head into gear and snap up some of the tickets as soon as you can. With the sun setting over the Adriatic Ocean to the sultry sounds of some sweet selectors, you’ll find yourself a pocket of paradise you’ll always come back to.
