HOW TO STAY SMOOTH ON THE BEACH THIS SUMMER

As the temperatures start to soar it’s natural to start daydreaming about the beach and how best to enjoy the heat. Long summer days spent taking a dip in the sea can seem few and far between, which is why it’s so important to take advantage of them whenever you can.

But if you want to stay smooth and stylish during beach times then there are a few things you need to remember. Let Thomas Royall give you the tips you need to stay looking great when you head to the beach.

STAY PROTECTED AGAINST SUNBURN

Everyone loves getting a tan, but stay out in the heat too long without using protection and you are sure to suffer from bright red skin that makes it hard to look cool. If you don’t pack a high enough factor into your beach bag then you will regret it later, when showering and putting on clothes becomes a painful chore. Staying protected from sunrays is imperative for keeping your smooth style wherever you are. Also, remember to reapply after getting in the water just in case it washes off.

GET A GOOD PAIR OF SUNGLASSES

When it comes to sunglasses, so many people just pick up the first pair they see and don’t even bother trying anything else on. This is a mistake, as finding the right pair of sunglasses for your face makes a huge difference to how you look. Large, bulky ones on the wrong face shape just look bizarre, as do smaller ones that don’t go with the person wearing them. You don’t have to break the bank to get a good pair of sunglasses, and they do so much to add to your look. If you want to keep the sun from hampering your eyesight then polarised lenses are most efficient when it comes to reducing glare on the water.

GET PUMPED

A huge part of looking good on the beach comes down to whether you’re in shape or not. You don’t need a six pack and huge arms to turn heads on the beach, but it does help if you can pump up a little bit before you head out there. If you’re worried about not being beach body ready then cut out salts, sugars and carbs a few days before your day out, replacing them with water, fruit and vegetables. Muscles also appear bigger after a workout, so some quick sets of press ups, pull ups and sit ups will give you a much more defined look. Tanned skin also helps to give your appearance more definition.

TAKE THE TIME TO EXFOLIATE

Looking after your skin plays a huge part to looking good on the beach. One of the best ways to do this is by exfoliating before the summer, to get rid of any rough, dead skin and make way for a softer side. To exfoliate you can pick up a soft, bristled brush and ‘dry brush’ your skin before you get into the shower. This improves circulation and has even been said to improve the immune system. Then brush your whole body lightly in an upward circular motion starting at your feet. If you want to exfoliate in the shower then a loofah and a gritty scrub will give you the right amount of friction to get rid of the layers of dead skin.

STAY MOISTURISED

Your skin is being punished every time the temperature changes, which is why it’s so important to look after it properly. Perfumed bar soaps are no good, instead you should switch to a body wash that features added moisturisers. You can also keep the temperature of the water cooler when you shower, and once you come out you should rehydrate your skin when it’s still damp by applying body lotion. This will help to keen your skin feeling and looking fresh, perfect when you’re going to be spending time at the beach.
