When it comes to partying this summer, there’s only one destination on everybody’s lips. While there are always a few contenders around the world for the number one spot, there’s always one island tucked away in the Balearics that retains its position as the undisputed champion.
Ibiza is a cut above the rest for a number of reasons. The White Island is widely considered by many to have spiritual qualities, a magnetic pull of sorts that attracts the most creative minds there to live and absorb the energies present there. As well as this, there is a selection of the world’s best clubs fitted with the world’s best soundsystems playing the sounds of the world’s best DJs – in short, an unbeatable combination for any party hunger punter this summer.
But apart from the traditional clubs, it’s the beach where the island is able to come alive. Where would Ibiza be without its ever present thudding basslines that pepper systems in bars all along its coastline? The answer is not quite atop the list of the best party destinations, that’s for sure. Below, we run through a few of our favourite beach parties to keep you busy right the way through the season.
Ushuaïa is undoubtedly one of the most established brands on the island, and when it comes to daytime parties they rarely fall short. Next to the legendary Ushuaïa Beach Club, the tower complex is still relatively new, but don’t let this fool you – some of the hottest parties touch down here week in, week out and are basically a rite of passage for any partygoers the world over.
Sunday night? Only one place for it: Café del Mar. It’s likely you’ll already be familiar with the venue, one of the relics from the halcyon days of the 1990s, but by all accounts Café del Mar has been having somewhat of a Renaissance over the past couple of years. A decade ago it was a waste ground for top-level talent, but this is no longer the case – some of the biggest selling artists in dance music history set up camp for marathon sets every Sabbath. Don’t miss it.
While not strictly a beach party, Es Vive offers a different dimension to the more typical daytime party scene in Ibiza. When it opens its doors to the poolside patio, you’re transported to a certain version of paradise – underground DJs playing one of the most luxurious locations on the island. Starting early and finishing early – don’t expect to be home before 9am the following day – it’s a place for the seasoned pro to strut their stuff.
On the subject of underground parties, head down to the S’Arsenal Promenade in San Antonio and check out the exclusive Departure at Itaca. As promoters, Departure only booking the finest in cutting edge underground house and techno, a far cry from the smoke machines and confetti cannons of Ibiza’s more mainstream venues. If your vibe is unpretentious, young and enthusiastic, there’s nowhere better suited for you.
The best thing about Blue Marlin Beach Club? Well, it’s open every single day – you can’t argue with that for availability. However, remember to make sure you don’t get complacent; it’s certainly somewhere you can end up queuing if you don’t time it right. Located at the southernmost point of the island, Cala Jondal, you’ll have to call a cab there but believe us when we tell you it’s worth every penny. Chicago House legend Todd Terry is a frequenter, which should tell you all you need to know about the sound that the Blue Marlin pushes year on year.
Here’s something a little different – perhaps something to try during a bit of downtime. Coco Beach’s recent refurbishment has made it a firm favourite for those looking to replenish their energy before another big night, with long lunches and cocktails on the sand proving to be pretty effective remedy on this front. With live performances from acrobats and other wonderful displays, it’s certainly something worth checking out at least once.
Our final tip is only for those of you serious about getting your groove on this summer. Rumours, a night run by tech house wizard Guy Gerber, is slowly becoming one of the best parties on the island – with a little thanks, in part, to the fact that it’s free. Gerber graces the decks every week, joined with an assortment of unannounced DJs and artists and a crowd full of clued up clubbers waiting to be awestruck with every build and every drop. Beachouse plays perfect host, but believe us when we say get there early – once it’s full, it’s full, and finding someone who wants to leave there will be like finding a needle in a haystack!
When you’re heading out to these parties, it’s quite likely you’ll want to go for a dip in the sea – not ideal if you’ve just come wearing your jean shorts. Fortunately, this is where Thomas Royall comes in. Our range of iconic shorts mean you can look the part at the beach parties you attend this summer, so don’t worry – you can leave those speedos behind. For more information regarding our range, sizes or delivery prices, don’t hesitate to get in touch before you fly out to the White Isle this summer.
